Katie Southgate Counselling

About Katie

Counselling rooted in warmth, honesty, and unhurried listening.

Some things stay unsaid for years. Not because they don’t matter, but because no one ever made it safe enough to say them out loud. The darker parts, the ones that don’t feel acceptable or tolerated, tend to get carried alone. I’m Katie Southgate, and this work is my calling. I sit with people in those parts of life until talking about them starts to feel possible. I don’t hurry, I don’t fix, and I don’t judge. I listen to your words, and I listen for what’s underneath them, including what it does to a person to carry something heavy for years. Together, we talk about the hard things instead of diminishing them, avoiding them, or holding them in. Over time, we look for a little more light in the places where all you could see was dark. We draw on your own strength and your natural ability to move, ebb, and flow through the experiences that have felt like too much. Moments of hope are celebrated here, and small doses of light in the dark count as wins. You don’t have to arrive ready, or know where to begin. We go at your pace, and we start wherever you are. I’m a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor – Candidate (RTCc) with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada, based in British Columbia. Counselling is virtual, for adults 18 and over living in British Columbia, from wherever feels safest to you. Not sure yet? Let’s start with a free 20-minute phone call, just two people connecting to see if this feels right for both of us.

what i believe

You don't have to be fixed to be heard.

You’re the expert on your own life. My role isn’t to tell you what to do or who to be. It’s to offer a steady place where you can say the things that have gone unsaid.

Support should be within reach.

I offer a sliding scale because I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to heal, whatever their circumstances. Reach out and we’ll find something that works

There is room for light, even in the dark.

However heavy things feel, small shifts are possible, and they’re worth celebrating. We find them together, at your pace, without pretending the hard parts aren’t there.
